Recently Alea has completed the procedure to obtain LEED credits for its most popular collection Zefiro. Here the list of the credits achieved and their description:MR Credit 2: Construction Waste Management (2 points)
Packaging
The product is packaged with cardboard only. Alea has eliminated completely the use of foam and recently purchased a robotized packing line machine that minimizes the use of cardboard per item, thereby significantly reducing the waste of packing material per product.
Percentage of recyclable packaging: 100 % of the packaging (cardboard boxes, pallets, paper etc.) is fully reusable and recyclable.
Percentage of materials made from recycled content: 100%
Ratio of post consumer/post industrial content: all the recycled material is 100% post consumer recycled material.
MR CREDIT 3.2: Material Reuse - Furniture and Furnishings (1 point)
99.7% of Zefiro raw materials is recyclable. The 100% of his packaging (cardboard boxes, pallets, etc.) is fully reusable and recyclable.

IEQ Credit 4.5: Low Emitting Materials (1 point)
Beginning of 2010 our Zefiro collection was submitted to the VOC test accordingly to the procedure based on ANSI/BIFMA M 7.1-2007 and ANSI/BIFMA X 7.1-2007 testing protocol. The test was conducted by an independent third party air quality testing laboratory called LAPI Spa located in Italy. Lapi Spa is a laboratory approved by BIFMA and the State of California.
The results were impressive and they are listed in the table below.
The emissions were much lower compared to the requirements.

Product Construction
Substrate Material: Particle Boards
Top Material: Melamine Sheet
The overall material is Veneered melamine barried overlay 11/16 thick. The strength of the material comes from two additional layers that lie between the particle board Panel and the melamine sheet. One sheet acts as insulation or a “barrier,” while the other acts as the “overlay” composed of transparent cellulose imbued with resin. The end result is a particular finish that illustrates parallel lines on the surface of the table top.

Ratio of post consumer/post industrial content: all the recycled material is 100% post consumer recycled material.
Percentage of recyclable materials: Alea panels are the result of the assembling of independent components, each of them made of homogeneous materials. Those features allow to separate the different components and to recycle each of them. As a matter of fact the 99.7% of Alea panels raw materials is recyclable.
Origin of wood: The suppliers of wood raw materials used to manufacture Alea products are “ECOLOGICAL PANEL” and “PROGETTO ECOQUALITA” (eco-quality project) certified. Both organizations check the origins of the wood materials and make sure they come from forests and plantations that are managed in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s principles and criteria. Literally the Ecological Panel is a recycled wood panel used in the furniture manufacturing. It is environmentally friendly and helps to save the environment, because it doesn't require tree felling.
